Gesundheit und Krankheit als gesellschaftliche Konstruktionen werden in diesem Buch auf unterschiedlichen Ebenen und mit unterschiedlichen theoretischen und methodischen Ausgangspunkten thematisiert. Empirische, theoretische und methodologische Zugriffe geben einen Einblick in die Bedeutung des gesundheitssoziologischen Arbeitsfeldes für moderne Gesellschaften. Der Reader vermittelt ausserdem erstmals einen umfassenden Überblick über das medizinsoziologische Arbeiten in der Schweiz, ohne jedoch in nationaler Beschränktheit verhaftet zu bleiben.
Das Buch enthält elf Texte in deutscher, fünf in französischer und einen Text in englischer Sprache. Die Einleitung ist in allen drei Sprachen abgefasst und gibt eine inhaltliche Übersicht zu allen Arbeiten.
Das Buch eignet sich für die Einführung in das Gebiet der Gesundheits- und Medizinsoziologie im Rahmen sozialwissenschaftlicher Studiengänge ebenso, wie für die Ausweitung der Perspektive innerhalb der Curricula medizinischer und paramedizinischer Berufe und deren Ausbildungen.
La santé et la maladie en tant que constructions sociales sont abordées sous différents angles et selon des points de vue théoriques et méthodologiques divers. Les approches empiriques, théoriques et méthodologiques rassemblées dans cet ouvrage montrent la pertinence de la sociologie de la santé dans les sociétés modernes. De plus ce recueil de textes offre en primeur une vue d'ensemble des travaux en sociologie de la santé et de la médecine réalisés en Suisse, sans toutefois se limiter au contexte national.
Le livre comprend onze textes en allemand, cinq en français et un en anglais. L'introduction traduite dans les trois langues décrit l'ensemble des contributions présentées.
L'ouvrage est conseillé comme introduction au champ de la sociologie de la santé et de la médecine dans le cadre d’études en sciences sociales, par ailleurs il permet d’étendre les domaines abordés dans la formation des professions médicales et para-médicales.
